How it works
Snap the homework. Get hints. Read the report.
Astuzo is a phone and tablet app. Your child photographs their math homework, Spark helps them work it out one hint at a time, and you get a short report when they’re done.

Before the first session
Set up in about a minute
You, the parent, create the account and add your child’s first name and grade. That’s it. Kids don’t need an email address or a password, and the grade tells Spark what level to pitch hints at. If you have more than one child, each gets their own profile, and they pick their name when they start.
Our goal is under 60 seconds from opening the app to the first homework photo. Every screen before the camera has to earn its place.
What you’ll need
- An iPhone or Android phone or tablet (the family iPad is perfect)
- Your child’s math homework, on paper or on screen
- About 10 to 20 minutes, like any homework session
A homework session
What happens, step by step
Snap it
Your child takes a photo of the homework: one question, a word problem, or a whole worksheet. Spark reads the page, including handwriting and drill sheets. They can also type a question in.
Work it out with hints
Spark asks what the question wants, what they already know, and what to try first. Each hint is a small nudge, never the answer. When your child answers, Spark checks it and either celebrates or helps them find the slip.
You get the report
When the session ends, you get a short report by email and in the parent area of the app: what your child worked on, where they needed hints, and how it went.
Hints, not answers
Why Spark won’t just tell them
Answer apps are fast, but copying an answer teaches nothing, and the test comes anyway. Spark works like a good tutor: it breaks the problem into steps and asks a question about the next one. If your child is still stuck, the hints get more specific, but your child always does the last step.
That’s better for learning, and it’s better for homework honesty too. The parent report shows what was worked on, so there are no surprises.
- KidIs it 10?
- SparkGood try! You added 4 and 6. Hint: are there 4 apples, or 4 bags of apples? Can you draw the bags?
- KidOh! 6 + 6 + 6 + 6… 24?
- SparkYes, 24! You used repeated addition. That’s the same as 4 × 6.
Features
Everything in a session
Photo input
Snap a question or a whole page. Spark reads printed and handwritten math.
Whole-sheet check
A page of drills? Spark checks every answer, then helps with the ones that need another look.
Voice
Kids can talk instead of type, and Spark can read questions and hints aloud.
Ontario curriculum
Built around the 2020 Ontario math curriculum for Grades 3–6, pitched at your child’s grade. What each grade covers.
Answer checking
Astuzo double-checks its math before telling your child an answer is right.
Parent report
A short summary after every session, by email and in the app. More for parents.
What happens to the homework photo?
It’s processed to read the problem and never stored. The text of the session is kept for 90 days for your reports, then deleted automatically.
